Small Engine Mechanic II

Looking for a motivated, hard-working Small Engine Mechanic to perform maintenance and repairs to all equipment types, in a highly skilled, safe and professional manner. This position requires an employee to be well organized with a strong attention to detail.



Education/Formal Training

  • Valid class 'G' license ('AR' an asset)
  • High school diploma and Trade school training preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of related work experience repairing/maintaining equipment and tools that require mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic repairs
  • Small engine repair experience required
  • EETC Certified for 2 and/or 4-stroke engines or willing to obtain
  • Forklift, Propane, Scissorlift and Welding Certification an asset

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Exposure to loud noise, dust, gas or fumes
  • Work indoors but also outside in unprotected weather elements
  • Frequent lifting up to 25lbs with occasional lifting up to 75lbs
  • Ability to bend, kneel and/or stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to climb over and into heavy equipment several times per day
  • Activities require handling and grasping with the hands when performing repairs or maintenance of equipment by utilizing hand tools, power tools, air tools, nuts, bolts, electronic controls and other small parts

Duties

  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area
  • Maintain positive customer relations through professional interactions
  • Follow standard operating procedures
  • Clean equipment
  • Attend formal training seminars
  • Load and unload equipment
  • Prepare new equipment for rent or sale
  • Assist with deliveries when required
  • Check out, familiarize and demonstrate a wide array of complex equipment for customers
  • Maintain paperwork of work performed in a complete and timely manner on a daily/job basis as well as documentation of labour; ability to communicate work performed to Shop Supervisor
  • Recognize and communicate the need for shop tools
  • Identify and communicate the need for parts for inventory
  • Using a high degree of independent judgment, responsible for the safe maintenance and repair of a variety of complex rental equipment, tools, and vehicles-which involve mechanical, hydraulic, gas, diesel and electrical systems-to include such times when resources are limited at branch or customer locations
  • Perform maintenance check on rental equipment before and after use for damage, hours used, tires, fuel levels, safety decals and compliance
  • Perform in a safe manner, repairs of rental equipment and tools, including checking oil, grease, fluids and tagging of equipment for rental-ready status
  • Ability to diagnose all equipment in rental fleet without supervision; ability to read, follow, understand, communicate schematics
  • Other duties as assigned/required
